HP AutoStore and HP Digital Senders support streamlined procurement at Wolfsburg AG
Since early 1998, municipal authorities in the German city of Wolfsburg have been collaborating with Volkswagen AG to cut unemployment. To handle this task, Wolfsburg AG was funded by the City of Wolfsburg and Volkswagen AG. Wolfsburg AG concentrates on different business activities and its forum, AutoVision, is a well-known platform, successful in collaboration and funding companies. As an incubator for new business ventures, Wolfsburg AG places a high priority on the efficiency of its internal operations. To make purchasing more efficient, it has recently installed a workflow-based procurement solution. “Because of the company’s growth, numbers of orders and suppliers were increasing steeply,” explained purchasing manager Mr. Marco Hadeler. “To maintain control over the purchasing process, we had to make it more transparent and streamlined.” Wolfsburg AG decided to base its purchasing application on Microsoft technology. Electronic processing of all purchasing-related documents was a central component of the solution. Wolfsburg AG chose HP as a supplier capable of providing all the required hardware and software as well as developing the application. “HP was able to provide us with a complete solution at a competitive price. Also, we knew from previous experience that HP was both cooperative and responsive,” commented Mr. Hadeler. Best solution Through a reseller, HP provided Wolfsburg AG with five HP Digital Sender 9100C units. Using these units, all documents related to purchasing are scanned and routed to the new Web-based procurement application using HP Autostore which was provided by Datentechnik Geist. HP Services was responsible for developing and integrating the application and for installing and configuring Microsoft SPS. The HP Digital Senders were supplied under the HP printadvantage service plan. According to Mr. Hadeler, the HP solution provides Wolfsburg AG with a much better overview of purchasing. As well as being simplified and automated, the procurement process is more transparent to purchasing staff and their internal customers. All participants in the procurement process are linked electronically using workflow. The system’s search capabilities make documents much easier to locate once they have been scanned. Past orders can also be retrieved. Because the application is Webbased, people in locations all over Germany can place orders electronically with Wolfsburg AG’s central purchasing department and then check on their progress. 29.07.2004, Notable Solutions Inc.
