SharePartXXL International GmbH has released a new version 2.0 of the Taxonomy Extension for Microsoft SharePoint. With this extension users can organise, classify and categorize content in their SharePoint infrastructure (WSS/MOSS) according to centrally managed taxonomies. The users then can browse the items and documents by category trees - independent of the storage location or type of information and without any search. The new version comes with new and improved web parts for tagging, tag clouds, category tree and A-Z directory out-of-the-box.

A free evaluation version is available at www.sharepartXXL.com.

SharePoint technology is increasingly being used by companies and organizations, especially to simplify browser based collaboration with Microsoft Office over the Internet. With the fast growing amount of collaboration data, the need for additional features to quickly access information items and documents has never been greater. If the user has to rely on searching alone, then all the effort in locating information is down to them, and they often do not know the contents of the possibly existing repositories. Structuring the information in advance as a mandatory part of the content creation process assists the user before they even start spending their time on search.

By far the most common and effective method of finding information is browsing structured classification systems, e.g. taxonomies of the products and solutions a company offers, the company’s organizational structure, typical process tasks or life situations, time-based information (e.g. all items that are new or changed in last month within one category), geographical, language or subsidiary-based documents or information for target groups like sales, development, students etc.
Version 2.0 of the SharePartXXL Taxonomy Extension now comes with new and improved web parts, e.g. for tagging, tag cloud information and A-Z directory support. Additional category-based navigations that are fully integrated into default SharePoint site navigations are generated automatically, with no effort at all. The tagging process now can be guided by rule-based category suggestions that are provided by content categorizers.

Categorizing content items and documents can enrich the default SharePoint search experience now. Multiple hierarchical taxonomies with synonyms and cross-linked related categories now provide the ability to manage complex knowledge networks, e.g. for knowledge bases, media libraries, document repositories or corporate intranets.

With the SharePartXXL Taxonomy Extension for Microsoft SharePoint the WSS/MOSS-based portal becomes a place to share knowledge as well as content. Time and costs for information research are significantly reduced and customers now get the full return of their SharePoint investment. The SharePartXXL Taxonomy Extension is available as a single server licence for 950 Euro exclusively from the website of SharePartXXL International at www.sharepartXXL.com. Those interested can also find a free evaluation version.
