Leading Open Source document management system reaches significant download milestone illustrating growing community and commercial traction

KnowledgeTree, an Open Source document management system for small to mediums-sized organizations, has been downloaded over 300,000 times from the premier Open Source portal, SourceForge.Net, a significant milestone for the project.

"The KnowledgeTree team believes in making document management as simple as possible. The download numbers for our one-click installer, available for both Linux and Windows, illustrates that we we're making a significant impact in the SMB and departmental space, where simplicity and ease of use are important concepts," says Daniel Chalef of KnowledgeTree developers Jam Warehouse.

Alongside file downloads, the health of an open source community is determined by the number of active community participants. The KnowledgeTree Open Source project boasts over 50 community projects on its "forge", a community management and hosting system. These projects range from language packs to feature extensions for the core document management system. The number of contributors to core application code has also been growing with the KnowledgeTree core engineering team accepting regular contributions, from bug-fixes to new features, from many community members.

KnowledgeTree's vision is to make document management simple. The web-based and AJAX-enabled application is built on the popular open source LAMP (Apache/MySQL/PHP) stack. KnowledgeTree has significant community traction and has been downloaded more than 300 000 times to date. KnowledgeTree is used by small and big business alike, with users including Fortune 500 companies, community organizations, local and state governments and educational and scientific institutions around the world.

KnowledgeTree is available in three additions: KnowledgeTree Enterprise, KnowledgeTree SMB and KnowledgeTree Open Source. The commercial editions of KnowledgeTree are sold with access to priority support and offer additional functionality that provides a familiar Windows Explorer and Microsoft Office interface into the document repository and direct-to-repository scanning capability.
