According to a new UK survey, the number of companies implementing document and records management systems has doubled in two years.

Conducted by the AIIM Europe, the survey canvassed over 150 UK companies and found that 29 percent are currently implementing a document and records management system. Compared to 2005, this represents an increase of almost 100 percent.

The survey also found that a further 19 percent have started integrating systems across departments compared to 13 percent in 2005, and almost half of those surveyed reported that they are spending or intend to spend more on document and records management systems in 2007. A mere 13 percent stated that they would be spending less.

While spending is increasing, many organisations are still finding it difficult to win support for change from upper management with 28 percent noting that gaining board-level support was a major challenge. A further 27 percent claimed that change management was the biggest problem.

Even with these problems, the survey highlights that UK adoption rates for document and records management systems on par with the US.

Finally, out of those surveyed, 16 percent rate their organisation very good or excellent in managing, controlling and using electronic information. This same group is twice as likely to consider their organisation’s profitability more effective than the industry average.
