"The acquisition of RedDot by Hummingbird is a logical consequence of the long-standing cooperation between the two enterprises. For some years now, they have been represented together at various trade shows and events. The two businesses complement each other quite well: Hummingbird comes from the classical document management sector, while RedDot offers successful solutions in the area of web content management. Even though both enterprises have kept expanding their portfolios in order to provide a complete ECM suite, neither of them has so far achieved this goal alone. Hummingbird has now taken an essential step towards this goal. The two systems make for an excellent combination, which is also supported by the fact that both software solutions have been offering mutual interfaces for quite some time already. Moreover, Hummingbird makes use of this acquisition in order to gain a foothold in the European market, an endeavour which had not been too successful in the past.
Furthermore, this acquisition demonstrates once more just how much the market keeps changing. While, only a few years ago, web content management solutions were much in demand, businesses are now looking for more comprehensive solutions.
